Commercial pilot student training with an AAT flight instructor in Queensland

A CASA Commercial Pilot Licence allows a pilot to operate professionally and is an important step towards a career in commercial aviation. AAT provides structured CPL flight training designed to develop the aircraft handling, navigation, operational decision-making and professional flying standards required of a commercial pilot.

Training is tailored to each pilot’s experience and progress, whether you are continuing from an RPL or PPL pathway or completing a structured professional training program.

CPL Training Pathway

AAT’s CPL pathway can take a student from no previous flying experience through to the standard required for a Commercial Pilot Licence. For students starting from zero, we can provide a complete training pathway covering initial flight training, solo consolidation, navigation, licence progression, commercial flying skills and preparation for the CPL flight test.
Students who already hold an RPL, PPL or have previous flying experience can enter the pathway at the appropriate stage. AAT plans each program around the pilot’s existing qualifications, experience and career goals rather than applying a one-size-fits-all course.
Training progressively develops aircraft handling, navigation, controlled airspace operations, advanced flight planning, operational decision-making and professional flying standards. For pilots continuing beyond the CPL, AAT can also provide further training towards instrument, multi-engine and flight instructor qualifications.

Flight Training and CPL Theory

Commercial pilot training requires both practical flying ability and a strong understanding of aviation theory. CPL candidates must successfully complete the required CASA commercial pilot theory subjects as part of their progression towards the licence.
AAT can coordinate practical CPL flight training with aviation theory training, helping students progress through both components in a structured manner. Our training environment allows students to apply theoretical knowledge directly to practical flight operations.
AAT shares its Redcliffe training facility with Bob Tait’s Aviation Theory, one of Australia’s longest-established specialist aviation theory training providers. For decades, Bob Tait’s has supported Australian pilots preparing for CASA theory examinations and professional aviation careers. Having flight training and specialist theory instruction operating from the same facility gives CPL candidates convenient access to both practical and academic training within one coordinated environment.
This close connection between theory and flying allows students to reinforce classroom knowledge through practical application, while benefiting from experienced aviation educators and flight instructors throughout their CPL training.

Training at Redcliffe and Bundaberg

AAT offers commercial pilot training from both Redcliffe and Bundaberg, providing students with access to different operating environments during their development.
Redcliffe provides training within the busy South East Queensland aviation environment, including controlled airspace and operations near Brisbane. Bundaberg provides a regional training environment well suited to intensive flight training and navigation development.
Together, the two locations allow AAT to provide flexible training options for students progressing towards a professional flying career.

TAFE Diploma of Aviation Pathway

AAT also works with TAFE Queensland to deliver training associated with the AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane).
This pathway combines vocational education with practical flight training and is designed for students pursuing aviation as a professional career.
Advanced Aviation Training provides training and assessment for TAFE Queensland RTO 0275, which awards the qualification.

Why Complete Your CPL With AAT?

AAT focuses on developing professional pilots rather than simply completing individual flight exercises. CPL students train within an active flight training organisation and gain experience working with instructors, senior instructional staff and flight examiners throughout their development.
Students can also continue their training with AAT into advanced qualifications such as instrument ratings, multi-engine training and flight instructor training, providing a pathway beyond the initial Commercial Pilot Licence.

AAT has in-house Flight examiners to conduct your flight tests.
